Mongolia Delegation Visits Korea to Research on Smart Government

The Asia Foundation and the KDI School co-hosted a 6-day study tour for fifteen Mongolian officials and civil society leaders from June 15-21 as a part of the Asia Development Partnership Program. The purpose of the fellowship was to learn about Korea’s development experience and meet with relevant Korean experts in order to research on capacity building for Mongolia’s smart government. Mongolia has been putting much effort in achieving smart government. President Elbegdorj stated a change from ‘Big government to Smart government’ in 2013, and few months later, Prime Minister Altankhuyag promulgated a statute on Smart government that would improve the effectiveness of the government which would lead to better access of public service. In this aspect, the study visit to Korea included topics on Korea’s efforts for transparency and anti-corruption, facilitating economic development through private sector investment, E-government, facilitating economic development through regulatory reform and investment, and a site visit to Songdo, a ‘Smart City’ in Incheon.
