The Asia Foundation participates in 2018 International Observation Program for Korea’s 7th Local Elections

Christopher Wyrod, deputy country representative for The Asia Foundation in Indonesia, joined more than 50 other international election professionals in the 2018 International Election Observations Program, sponsored by Korean National Election Committee (NEC), for Korea’s 7th nationwide simultaneous local elections.


Christopher Wyrod met with officials at the Korean NEC, visited the NEC election command center, and received briefings at the Korean Civic Education Institute for Democracy (KOCEI). He also joined observers from the European Union, the Organization of American States, and the Indian Election Commission to observe early voting before election day in Gyeonggi Province, and then visited polling stations and observed the voting and ballot-counting in Seoul metropolitan areas on Election Day, June 13.


During the program, Christopher Wyrod also gave a presentation on “Measures to Expand Participation in Elections by Socially Marginalized Groups” at the 2018 Seoul International Forum on Elections jointly organized by the National Election Commission and the World Association of Election Agencies (AWEB).
