Timor-Leste Development Fellow Begins Research on Conflict Resolution, Mediation and Peacebuilding in Korea

In September, The Asia Foundation Korea Office invited Mr. Luis Ximenes, an East Timorese development expert, as a 2019 Asia Development Fellow. Mr. Ximenes is Director of Belun, one of the most respected civil society organizations in Timor-Leste.

Mr. Luis Ximenes is currently placed at Institute for Restorative Practice to carry out his research on conflict resolution, mediation and peacebuilding in Korea. He is expected to submit a research paper by the end of November after completing the fellowship.

As Director of Belun, Mr. Ximenes has provided management support for a number of nationwide conflict prevention and community capacity development programs. He also worked with Columbia University’s Center for International Conflict Resolution to support civil society and conflict resolution in 2002-2004.
