September 27, 2024 – The Asia Foundation Korea Office hosted a Roundtable Dialogue on ‘Way Forward for Development Cooperation and Korea for Asia’. Congratulatory remarks were delivered by Myung Ja KIM (Chairperson, KAIST), and the panel discussion was moderated by Kyungjin SONG (Country Representative of Korea, The Asia Foundation).

 

The invited panels were

 

- Hae Ryong KWON, Professor, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Former ROK Ambassador to UAE)

- Jeong-hoon CHOI, Director General of EDCF Operations 2, KEXIM

- Jae Young KIM, Executive Vice President, Seoul National University

- HE Amit KUMAR, Indian Ambassador to Korea

- Daeshik JO, Secretary General, KCOC (Former ROK Ambassador to Canada)

 

 

 

 

The panels discussed future directions of Korea’s development cooperation and Korea’s role for Asia’s sustainable development with 45 participants of diverse backgrounds including government, academia, media, and business.

 

The following points were highlighted during the roundtable discussion.

 

ㅇ Raise Korea’s development cooperation effectiveness through competition-based implementation and enhanced evaluation of development programs;

ㅇ Improve recipient country’s governance to enable efficient development cooperation efforts;

ㅇ Streamline Korea’s design and implementation of development cooperation policies;

ㅇ Expand Korea’s engagement in global governance and strengthen its thought leadership in development cooperation; and

ㅇ Leverage The Asia Foundation’s accumulated experience and expertise to advance Korea’s development cooperation.

    * Example: The Asia Foundation facilitated multiple trilateral partnerships between US-India-African countries with support from the US Department of State

 

 

 

 

The Asia Foundation Korea plans to further facilitate exchange of ideas and views on Korea’s role for sustainable development of Asia and as a thought leadership provider.
