During the panel session themed "Advancing Democracy & Media Literacy," Dr. Song shared insights on the current global landscape of media literacy and the negative effects of disinformation on political and social polarization. She emphasized the need for digital and media literacy education and the establishment of legal and institutional frameworks to ensure proper access to, understanding, and use of accurate information. She highlighted the need for international policy cooperation at the summit levels, including the G20, APEC, and UN, as advancements in digital technologies, including AI, allow disinformation to be produced and spread across borders.
Also, she addressed the growing cybersecurity concerns in cyberspace and introduced The Asia Foundation’s four-year "APAC Cybersecurity Fund" program, which supports micro, small, and medium enterprises across 12 countries in Asia and the Pacific.
