Asia Foundation, MoneyGram Foundation and Seoul Metropolitan Government Partner to Publish Multilingual Storybooks in Korea

The Asia Foundation’s  Let’s Read! initiative is pleased to announce its partnership with the MoneyGram Foundation and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. On August 31, the Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a year-long collaboration on joint project, “Multilingual Book Creation for Migrant Families in Korea” to support cultural and linguistic bridges to aid migrant communities. According to Korean Immigration Service Statistics, in 2016 there were over two million migrants living in Korea, approximately four percent of Korea’s total population.
 
2018 International Girls’ Health Student Writing Competition Held to Draw Attention to Girls’ Health Issues

On September 18, the 2018 International Girls’ Health Student Writing Competition was held at the LG Convention Hall of Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea. The topic of this year’s competition was “Girls at Risk in Developing Countries”. The Competition was to bring to light the topic of girls’ health, which is often an easily neglected field.

The Competition was co-organized by the Institute for Development and Human Security at Ewha Womans University, the Ewha Global Health Institute for Girls, and the United Nations ESCAP East and North-East Asia Office. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and The Asia Foundation were sponsors of the Competition. 
 
Asia Foundation and Beijing Rongzhi Corporate Social Responsibility Institute Co-Host Northeast Asia Regional Seminar on Overseas Investment Compliance

On September 11, The Asia Foundation, in partnership with the Beijing Rongzhi Corporate Social Responsibility Institute hosted the Northeast Asia Regional Seminar on Overseas Investment Compliance, in Beijing. The seminar focused on overseas operational risks and compliance management of enterprises under the context of globalization. Speakers from Korea, Mongolia, and China presented on the background, enforcement, and future trends of the legal regime and laws regarding anti-corruption in the region. Read More
 

The Asia Foundation Nurtures Children’s Storybook Creatives in Cambodia by support of YBM

The Asia Foundation gathered current and aspiring children’s book editors together on September 1-2 to sharpen their editing abilities to guide Cambodia’s growing pool of writers and illustrators in producing high quality children’s books. Support for the training was generously provided by YBM, one of Korea’s largest publishing and education companies. YBM supports The Asia Foundation’s goal to help kids across Asia develop the habit of reading (essential to improved education and employment opportunities), starting by addressing the scarcity of reading books in their own language. Myanmar and Mongolian Development Fellows placed in Seoul to learn about Korea’s development experience
The Asia Foundation is hosting Asian development specialists to share Korea’s development experience. Development fellows from Myanmar (Nyi Nyi Aung) and Mongolia (Gerelee Odonchimed) are placed at People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy and Civil Society Organizations Network in Korea each.
 
2018-2019 Luce Scholar Mayra Tenorio placed at Asian Center for Women’s Studies, Ewha Womans University and the Korea Sexual Violence Relief Center
2018-2019 Luce Scholar Mayra Tenorio has begun her professional placement in Seoul after the intensive Korean language study.
