AADC 2020 Spotlights Asia’s Changing Landscape of Development Cooperation Amidst and Beyond Covid-19

November 24, 2020 — The Asia Foundation, together with KDI School of Public Policy and Management, hosted the Asian Approaches to Development Cooperation (AADC) webinar series on “Changing Landscape of Development Cooperation Amidst and Beyond Covid-19 in Asia” on November 11-13. For its 10th anniversary this year, the AADC opened the dialogues to the public for the first time and facilitated broader knowledge sharing to better respond to Covid-19 in the region. The webinar series addressed emerging approaches on official development assistance and roles of non-state actors and multilateralism in response to Covid-19. Speakers from the Republic of Korea, China, India, Bangladesh, Philippines, UNESCAP, and ASEAN along with local community partners and INGOs shared diverse Asian experiences and approaches in adapting to the Covid-19 crisis and future global pandemics with more systematic, collective responses. FOTAF board member elected as President of Ewha Womans University

FOTAF (Friends of The Asia Foundation) board member, Professor Eun Mee Kim, has been elected the 17th president of Ewha Womans University. Since 2018, President-elect Kim has served as a FOTAF board member. In her capacity as the former Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies, she has also actively participated in the Korea office’s international development projects, including AADC (Asian Approaches to Development Cooperation). Access to Market Talk Concert for Women Entrepreneurs in Gyeonggi Province

November 30, 2020 - The Asia Foundation conducted a marketing talk concert for women entrepreneurs in Gyeonggi Province in cooperation with the Gyeonggido Job Foundation on November 30, 2020. The event was an inaugural event of the Accelerate Women’s Entrepreneurship in Korea: Phase II, and the objective was to reach out to the women entrepreneurs in Gyeonggi Province and initiate the conversations about the challenges they face and provide them the opportunity to communicate with large retail corporations. The representatives from Korea’s one of the largest retail channels, Starfield Hanam (part of Shinsegye), HomePlus, a major discount store, and WeMakePrice, an online sales platform participated. A marketing professor from Korea University moderated the event, who identified various challenges faced by the women entrepreneurs in their businesses and offered an opportunity for women entrepreneurs to speak out. A workshop on sustainable urban development in Vietnam held for Vietnamese urban development experts

November 25, 2020 - The Asia Foundation Korea and Vietnam, with the support of the KDI School of Public Policy and Management held an online-offline blended workshop on “Sustainable Urban Development: Korea’s Experiences in Smart and Human-Centered City Planning and Practice." The workshop was organized for Vietnamese participants in the urban development areas from government, think tanks, multilateral organization and private sector. Composed of two sessions, the workshop covered two topics mainly; ‘Smart City Development Policies and Practices’ and ‘Understanding a Smart City: Smart Cities Should Be Human Centered’. 2020-2021 Luce Scholars begin placement at Woorion and Nunaps

November 11, 2020 - A diverse cohort of 18 young American leaders have been chosen as 2020-2021 Luce Scholars after a three-month-long selection process and have been posted across Asia. Among the newly selected scholars, Melanie Arroyave (left) and Maya Foster (right) arrived in Korea in September and began their professional placement. Kwang Kim to speak as a panel in 2020 Next Impact Conference

October 29, 2020 - The Next Impact Conference is an annual event focusing on collective impact, co-hosted by Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR) and Hanyang University since 2018. The event convened and connected impact ecosystem builders beyond age, gender, industry, geography, and cultural differences. By catalyzing cooperation across a broad range of stakeholders, the event aimed to create a collective impact and build a better world. The session in which Kwang Kim participated as a panel specifically focused on ‘Future of Asian Impact Ecosystem for Next Normal’. Through sharing his experiences and insights on behalf of the Foundation, he enriched the conversation to identify the Asian impact ecosystem’s present and discuss its future from the collective impact perspective. [Study Visit to Asia] Online Lecture Series Held for International Development Cooperation and Inclusive Economic Growth in India

October 13~15 & 20~21 - Supported by the KDI School of Public Policy and Management, The Asia Foundation Korea hosted an online lecture series entitled “International Development Cooperation and Inclusive Economic Growth: MSMEs and Women’s Enterprises in India” for Korean development practitioners for 5 days(October 13–15 & 20–21) in October. The online lecture series took place as an alternative of a study visit to India which is difficult to be implemented due to COVID-19. In cooperation with The Asia Foundation India and O.P.
