Launch of STEM ConnectHER Program for Women in STEM in Asia and the Pacific

January 30, 2024 - The Asia Foundation launched the STEM ConnectHER program to support the career development of young women in STEM fields in Asia and the Pacific in 2024. The program includes speaker series, mentoring, industry site visits, learning resources and other various activities. In Korea, the orientation for mentees was held on January 9, 2024, followed by the first speaker series on January 15. The speaker series, entitled "Dream Big, Fly High: Inspiring the Next Generation of STEM Leaders," featured two women experts from the Aerospace field: Ms. Ji-yeon (Julia) Park, Senior Manager at Pratt & Whitney, and Ms. Jung-beom (Judy) Moon, Connected Aviation Solutions at Collins Aerospace. During the speaker series moderated by Lee Kyung-sook, Acting Country Representative of The Asia Foundation's Korea Office, the two speakers shared their experiences in the aerospace industry. January 24, 2024 - The Asia Foundation announces the 2024 class of Asia Foundation Development Fellows: Emerging Leadership for Asia’s Future following a highly competitive selection process with thousands of applicants. The 12 selected Development Fellows are emerging leaders in their fields, bringing bold, innovative thinking and a deep commitment to addressing complex issues across Asia and the Pacific. Ensuring Continued Efforts to Combat Trafficking in Persons for Sexual Exploitation and Gender-Based Violence in Mongolia

December 28, 2023 - On November 7, The Asia Foundation hosted a conference to celebrate the conclusion of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s (MOGEF) 5 yearlong ODA Project from 2019 to 2023 for Prevention of Violence Against Women (VAW) and Supporting Victims in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The conference provided an opportunity to share the outcomes and achievements of the joint project between MOGEF and the Mongolian Ministry of Labor and Social Protection (MLSP) and to strengthen the government-civil society partnership for the project’s sustainability. November 27, 2023 - The Asia Foundation co-hosted the "Re-unification Re-Startup 2023" event at Ewha Women’s University ECC on November 18, 2023. The primary objective was to spotlight the endeavors of North Korean refugee entrepreneurs, showcasing their businesses and products to the broader public. Hana Foundation, The Bridge, Asan Nanum Foundation, Merry Year Foundation, and Ewha Women’s University collaborated in this meaningful initiative. The Asia Foundation Co-hosted and Co-sponsored the Korea-Japan Seminar on Professional Women in STEM

October 16, 2023 - The Asia Foundation co-hosted and co-sponsored “The Korea-Japan Seminar: Growing as Women Leaders in STEM Fields" with the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET) on October 11, 2023. The seminar was organized by Sookmyung Women’s University Research Institute of Asian Women. Approximately 40 persons attended the seminar, and women experts from various STEM fields from Korea and Japan presented and discussed their experiences and know-how in working in the fields and provided practical advice. The first speaker, Ms. Urara Takaseki, the CEO of Omotete, a Japanese startup, shared her experiences as a woman in her 20s pursuing a Ph.D. in a STEM field as well as managing her business. She mentioned that the experience of founding a company pushed her to consider different perspectives and act proactively.
