Winners Announced for Business Competition for North Korea-related Entrepreneurs

The winners have been announced for The Asia Foundation Business Competition for North Korea-related Entrepreneurs 2022: 1st Place: Michelle Cho (Singing Beetle) 2nd Place: Myeonghee Ahn (Ryu Ae) 3rd Place: Geum-sung Kim (Uncles) The selection process was very competitive, and all applicants showed strong potentials. The winners, who have been selected among a competitive process, showed strong potentials for business growth and social impact for the community of North Korean refugee community in South Korea. Further information on the award ceremony will be shared to each of the winners separately. Congratulations to all the winners of the competition.

Inclusive Growth Models in Asia: An Interview with Dr. Kees Krul 

A new research initiative co-launched by The Asia Foundation will study Asian firms and their responses toward responsible business and growth models (click here for the research project website). This will include not only corporate philanthropy but in-depth business models impacting society. The research will also examine the value chains of large companies and small enterprises in delivering long-term value to people, profit, and the planet and its implications for business and policy leaders. The research is also unique in involving six different organizations, including The Asia Foundation, Erasmus Initiative Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Hanyang University, the Economics of Mutuality (EoM) Foundation, and the Centre for the Economics of Mutuality. The Asia Foundation Sponsored an Expert Forum Celebrating the Women in Engineering Day

July 22, 2022 - On the occasion of Women in Engineering Day, The Asia Foundation sponsored the 2022 Expert Group Meeting hosted by the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering, and Technology (WISET) on June 23, 2022. The purpose of the meeting is to deliberate means to increase the inflow of female talents and bridge the gender gap in engineering. The event began with opening remarks by President Hye-yeon Ahn, and congratulatory remarks by National Assembly Member Sang-hee Kim and Jane Sloane, the Senior Director of the Asia Foundation Women's Empowerment and Gender Inequality program, followed by presentations and panel discussions by experts from both the U.S. and South Korea. Women Entrepreneurs, from A trainer and a trainee to peers

June 30, 2022 - The Asia Foundation successfully organized an online event featuring women entrepreneurs who had been trained through Personal Initiative (PI) Training on the 24th of May 2022. Through April 12 to May 17, three women entrepreneurs, certified as PI trainers conducted a six-week online training program for the first batch of women entrepreneurs in Gyeonggi province. The PI trainers were trained earlier in 2021 through The Asia Foundation’s PI Training of Trainer’s Program. As the program promoted individual trainees’ active engagement, the majority of them expressed needs for a meeting in person. The offline event was joined by the three PI trainers and trained women entrepreneurs participated in the pilot PI training sessions in 2021 and the sessions for the first batch this year. The Asia Foundation launches a new research collaboration with Economics of Mutuality Foundation on Inclusive Growth Models in Asia

June 17, 2022 - The Asia Foundation’s Economics Program and the Korea Office, Economics of Mutuality Foundation, and Erasmus University of Rotterdam launched a unique research collaboration on inclusive growth models: www.eur.nl/en/economics-mutuality The research will center on the role of multinational companies and small enterprises in their value chains in delivering long-term value to people, profit, and planet, with implications to business and policy leaders. Dr. Kees Krul, who will carry out the research for this project, will spend 1 year in Europe (Rotterdam), 1 year in Asia (Seoul), while conducting multi-country field research.
