The Asia Foundation Korea co-organized the 2019 Impact Consulting Camp (ICC)’ in Hanoi, Vietnam, in partnership with Hanyang University and Foreign Trade University from July 22nd to July 30th. ICC is a hands-on action learning program for a undergraduates from Vietnam and Korea, involving global clients (the World Bank Group was the main client last year). This year, students worked with Mars Corporation with its Economics of Mutuality initiative, a ground-breaking approach to re-purpose the role of business in society, including by optimizing people, profit, and planet metrics of global corporations. Mars Corporation, Vietnam’s VN Post, FIIS, and the Asia Foundation served as clients for this year’s cohort. During this intensive 2-week program, participants are provided with in-depth consulting experience in business and social impact, including training on innovative approaches, and present their findings in actual client cases involving local and global organizations.

| Chinese NGOs Visit Korea for Improvement of Aid Effectiveness |

| From July 1 to 5, 2019, The Asia Foundation’s Korea Office hosted a China delegation for capacity development under the theme of Capacity Building for Chinese NGOs in Overseas Development Cooperation: Korea’s Experiences and Lessons Learned. The delegation consisted of 7 participants from NGOs and academia, including China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, China Association for NGO Cooperation, the Amity Foundation, Beijing Qiyue Center for Philanthropy, Chinese Red Cross Foundation, and East China University of Political Science and Law. As part of the capacity building program for Chinese NGOs, The Asia Foundation hosted a Korea-China-Japan Workshop on CSO Capacity Building for Effective Overseas Development Cooperation on July 4, 2019. The workshop was organized to share experiences of development cooperation between Korea, China and Japan. |

| Asia Foundation's Women Business Center and Incubator Project Selected for Korean Citizen Review |

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) selected 2019 End-Project Evaluation Team consisting of five citizens who will visit KOICA-Civil Society Partnership project sites and evaluate their results. In its second year of initiation, the appointment ceremony of the 2019 Citizen Review Team was held at KOICA headquarters on July 24, 2019. After a series of workshops, the selected Korean citizens will pay a visit to the sites of Women Business Center and Incubator Project implemented by TAF/Mongolia, and Barista Job Creation Project for the Blind in Mongolia by Siloam from August 25 to 31, 2019.

On July 12, The Asia Foundation's Korea Office welcomed 2019-2020 Luce Scholars Ms. Sophie Barterian (University of Michigan) and Mr. Kiryl Puchyk (University of Chicago) in Seoul. The Luce Scholars Program is unique among American-Asian exchanges in that it is intended for young leaders who have had limited experience of Asia and who might not otherwise have an opportunity in the course of their careers to come to know Asia. Sophie has been placed with Art Center Nabi, a media arts institution in the cutting edge of technology and society (e.g. robot/artificial intelligence art prototypes), and Kiryl has been placed with Skelter Labs, an artificial intelligence technology company developing innovative machine intelligence technology. During the welcoming orientation, Kiryl said "The orientation provided me with the context necessary to better understand South Korean history, as well as Korea's current position within East Asia and the world as a whole." Sophie mentioned "I'm really looking forward to getting comfortable throughout this year, and improving my Korean as much as I can. I'm very nervous and excited about my placement. It will be my first job outside of academia, and I want to do my best! The work I will get to do there is a great opportunity for me." The Luce Scholars will begin their professional placement from September 2019.
