Northeast Asia Youth Exchange Program: Fostering Climate Solutions through Collaborative Learning
September 20, 2023 - The Northeast Asia region, comprising China, Japan, Mongolia, and South Korea, faces similar climate vulnerabilities and impacts. Recognizing the shared challenges, The Asia Foundation launched the Northeast Asia Youth Exchange Program in August 2023. This initiative aimed to tackle climate change through Nature-Based Solutions (NbS). The fundamental idea was to foster cooperation and facilitate people-to-people dialogue and relationship building, especially among the region's youth. The program brought together 13 dedicated young individuals from China, Japan, Mongolia, and South Korea aged 18-30, and known for their innovative efforts in addressing climate change challenges. Through a series of activities and initiatives, these participants aimed to enhance their understanding of climate change, brainstorm innovative solutions, and build connections for future collaborations. Empowering Entrepreneurs: A Recap of "Re-unification Re-Startup 2023”
November 27, 2023 - The Asia Foundation co-hosted the "Re-unification Re-Startup 2023" event at Ewha Women’s University ECC on November 18, 2023. The primary objective was to spotlight the endeavors of North Korean refugee entrepreneurs, showcasing their businesses and products to the broader public. Hana Foundation, The Bridge, Asan Nanum Foundation, Merry Year Foundation, and Ewha Women’s University collaborated in this meaningful initiative. The Asia Foundation Co-hosted and Co-sponsored the Korea-Japan Seminar on Professional Women in STEM
October 16, 2023 - The Asia Foundation co-hosted and co-sponsored “The Korea-Japan Seminar: Growing as Women Leaders in STEM Fields" with the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET) on October 11, 2023. The seminar was organized by Sookmyung Women’s University Research Institute of Asian Women. Approximately 40 persons attended the seminar, and women experts from various STEM fields from Korea and Japan presented and discussed their experiences and know-how in working in the fields and provided practical advice. The first speaker, Ms. Urara Takaseki, the CEO of Omotete, a Japanese startup, shared her experiences as a woman in her 20s pursuing a Ph.D. in a STEM field as well as managing her business. She mentioned that the experience of founding a company pushed her to consider different perspectives and act proactively.
